Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry is the area of dentistry concerned with preventing dental problems before they become costly or painful, or both. A large part of preventive dentistry is patient education. This includes learning the proper at-home dental care, nutrition, etc. Another aspect of preventive dentistry is oral hygiene through regular dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, mouthguards & more.At Portsmouth Dental Care we make every effort to ensure that you, our patients, are well-informed & educated on proper at-home dental care so as to avoid, as much as possible, the need for restorative dental services.

Mercury-Free Dentistry

We understand your concerns regarding the use of mercury fillings. Accordingly, at our office we have elected to offer our patients the option of using new advanced fillings made of tooth-colored materials that contain no metals or mercury as an alternative to traditional silver fillings.

Emergency Dental Care

We recognize that dental emergency situations do arise, & at Portsmouth Dental Care, we will do our best to respond to your problem promptly. Regardless if it is something as simple as a tooth filling or a complicated procedure requiring an Portsmouth Dental Care cosmetic dentist, we can provide you with assistance. If the problem arises when the Portsmouth Dental Care offices are closed, our answering service will forward your message to your dentist.

Digital X-Rays

Portsmouth Dental Care offers in-office digital x-rays for your convenience. Digital x-rays are computer-generated images that require up to 90% less radiation than conventional film-type x-rays. Instead of using the traditional silver-oxide x-ray film, which must be developed & then fixed in caustic & environmentally damaging solutions, the new system takes pictures via a small electronic sensor. A picture of the tooth is instantaneously transmitted onto the monitor in the treatment room so we can see your teeth & surrounding structures immediately.

i-CAT 3-D Dental Imaging

Biting down on sticky impression goop & x-ray film is a thing of the past! With new digital scanning systems, we can use an optical scanner to generate a 3-D image of your teeth & surrounding structures. The process of making a digital scan of your mouth & jaw is much faster & more comfortable for the patient than the traditional process of impressions & x-rays—no more gagging! These digital scans are also more accurate, allowing us to create an incredibly precise treatment plan. With this state-of-the-art technology, we can treat your smile more quickly than ever before.

Filtered Water Lines

We understand your concern about water quality & the importance of keeping you & your family healthy. For this reason, we utilize filtered water lines during our dental procedures. By filtering the water used in dental procedures, we are able to get rid of any substances that may compromise the health of our patients. The safety, health & dental care of patients are our top priorities. This is just another way to show how much we care!

Restorative Dentistry

We offer state-of-the-art restorative dentistry if it becomes necessary. We know that even when you do everything right, something can go wrong. If you are suffering from a dental problem, we are here to help. Modern technology combined with the in-depth experience of our clinical team can assure you of a successful & long-lasting result. Whether the cause is an accident or disease, we can restore your smile with the many restorative dental services we provide.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the specialty of dentistry that involves changing the position of teeth in your mouth, using braces or other orthodontic technologies. Orthodontics can be used to treat problems with how the teeth of your upper & lower jaws line up, known as a bad bite. Called malocclusion by dentists, examples of bad bites are underbites, overbites, & crossbites. Orthodontics can also be used to straighten teeth & fix spacing problems (such as gaps or crowding).

Orthodontic treatments can give you the beautiful & straight smile you desire, but they can also benefit your oral health. Orthodontics can help prevent jaw problems that can arise from a misaligned bite & teeth that are properly spaced & aligned are easier to keep clean. So while you’ll certainly have a more beautiful smile at the end of your orthodontic treatment, you’ll also have a more functional, healthier smile!

At Portsmouth Dental Care, we are proud to offer a range of orthodontics options for our patients. If you are interested in orthodontics for either cosmetic or functional reasons, please start a discussion with us about your options.

Dental Crowns in One Visit

Getting a dental crown takes only one visit instead of the traditional three. After creating a scan of your mouth using advanced 3D imaging, our on-site apparatus creates matched, custom dental crowns out of natural ceramic that can be installed immediately. Dental crowns in one visit means restoring your smile without taking extra time off from work or school.

Call Portsmouth Dental Care today to see how our dentists can help repair your smile in one easy visit.

Dentures

If you’ve lost teeth from decay, injury or periodontal (gum) disease, dentures are the solution. Whether you need partial or full dentures, they’re essential not only to improve the look of your smile but also your oral health. In addition to allowing you to eat as if you had never lost your teeth, dentures also protect against facial sagging that would otherwise occur & cause a more aged appearance. Dentures can also improve your speech. Denture maintenance combined with a regular regimen of proper brushing can guarantee you’ll lead a more comfortable & healthy life.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are man-made replacements for natural teeth. The implants themselves are artificial tooth roots anchored in the gum or jawbone, on which replacement teeth are permanently secured. Because implanted teeth are fixed in the mouth—rather than being removable, like dentures—they allow a return to the comfort & function of natural teeth. Increased chewing ability means you can enjoy more nutritious foods, contributing to your overall health & well-being.

In short, dental implants improve the quality of your life. They can improve your appearance, boost your self-confidence & allow you to speak with greater clarity.

TMJ (Jaw Pain) Therapy

Commonly misdiagnosed or overlooked, a subtle misalignment in the temporomandibular joint can be a common, significant source of head & neck pain. If you have frequent & severe head or neck pain, you owe it to yourself to investigate our doctor’s life-changing approach to correcting these TMJ problems.

Sealants & Fluoride Treatments

Tooth decay, otherwise known as cavities, can be a significant problem for children as well as adults. There are numerous factors that lead to tooth decay & there are ways to prevent it. With the use of sealants, we can cover the deep grooves in your back teeth & extend their life while helping to prevent cavities.

Endodontic Care

Put simply, endodontic care is the term for the treatments & procedures a dentist will use to save a tooth if it becomes infected or injured. Endodontics involves treating the tissues inside your teeth that surround the root & includes root canal therapy. An endodontist is a dental specialist who completes at least two additional years of training & uses advanced technology & procedures to comfortably preserve your natural teeth & keep you smiling.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Having a great smile can make a huge difference in the way you look & feel. We offer a complete range of cosmetic dental services to create the confident smile you’ve always wanted. We begin with a detailed smile assessment, discussing with you which aspects you like & dislike about your smile. Once our assessment is complete, we will discuss with you cosmetic dentistry options to help your smile look more natural, healthy & youthful.

Teeth Whitening

Now you can have significantly whiter teeth in a matter of a few days using advanced teeth-whitening techniques. Both comfortable & affordable, our teeth-whitening procedure involves you wearing a specially crafted tray for a few hours in order to achieve a surprising difference in your smile!

Lumineers® Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns & can perfect your smile by masking stains, hiding chips, correcting misalignment & creating uniformity. We feature Lumineers®, which can be placed over existing teeth without the removal of any form of tooth structure. Therefore, anesthesia & temporaries are not required. The no-prep technique is perfect for stained, chipped, misaligned or spaced teeth. Bonding porcelain to enamel creates a solid, secure bond.

Traditional & Clear Braces

Traditional braces can provide treatment for a wide range of orthodontic problems, including bad bites, crooked or crowded teeth & misalignment. Braces consist of metal brackets that are attached to the teeth & fitted with an arched wire that gently shifts your teeth into the desired position. Having straight teeth doesn’t just mean a beautiful smile; a normal bite reduces the potential for tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss, poor speech or chewing & jaw problems. Thanks to advances in orthodontic materials, treatment times for traditional braces are shorter than in the past. Traditional metal braces are often the least expensive option for achieving a straight & healthy smile!

Invisalign© is the revolutionary way to help you get straight & even teeth without noticeable & metal braces. Virtually undetectable, Invisalign© aligners are made of strong & clear plastic that gradually guide your teeth into perfect alignment. Tooth impressions are made, from which Invisalign© develops customized aligners that will slide directly over your teeth. Aligners are typically worn full-time (except when eating or drinking) for 12-48 months—no longer than you would wear traditional metal braces. Aligners are replaced every two weeks as your teeth shift into place.
